Sat Mar 26 2011 02 : 03 / New Delhi
WikiLeaks now puts Arun Jaitely in the dock. Cable reveals comments by leader calling 'Hindutva' as the BJP's 'opportunistic ploy'.

Jaitley on Hindutva

The US diplomatic cable accessed by Wikileaks recorded Jaitley as telling American diplomats that Hindu nationalism was an opportunistic issue for the party.

The statements were made during a private conversation that Jaitley had with Robert Blake, the Charge at the U.S. Embassy, on May 6, 2005.

Jaitley had argued that Hindu nationalism ‘would always be a talking point' for the BJP. However, he also termed it as an opportunistic issue.

Jaitley denies

The BJP, which has been asking the PM to resign on the basis of WikiLeaks, is suddenly in reverse mode.

Senior BJP leader, Arun Jaitley has denied the comments that have been attributed to him in a US cable exposed by WikiLeaks.

Jaitley, who is in Guwahati said, “Use of the word 'opportunistic' is neither in my language or my view”.
