Dinnaj Kaur, a resident of Dairywal village, was immediately rushed in an ambulance to the Civil hospital where doctors said that the girl had died inside the borewell.

Body of a 3-year-old girl, who fell into a borewell at Dheera village in Gurdaspur district, was taken out by the army and administration rescuers on Thursday.

Dinnaj Kaur, a resident of Dairywal village, was immediately rushed in an ambulance to the Civil hospital where doctors said that the girl had died inside the borewell itself.

"She had died much earlier," hospital's Senior Medical Officer Mohinder Singh said.

Kaur had come to her maternal village Dheera where she accidentally slipped into the 180-deep borewell on Wednesday while playing near the spot with other children.

She, however, got stuck at a depth of about 30 feet.

The owner of the borewell had covered it with a gunny bag after it's electric motor stopped functioning a few days back.

The district administration assisted by the army on Wednesday had launched rescue efforts to pull out the girl.
