While the seasoned directors like AneeZ Bazmee and Priyadarshan are busy making tall towers out of their piles of flop comedies, new age ones are churning out some rib cracking flicks. So after Tere Bin Laden and Phas Gaye Re Obama, comes another comedy Teen Thay Bhai. The film stars veteran actor Om Puri with Shreyas Talpade and Deepak Dobriyal.
Teen Thay Bhai revolves around the story of three estranged brothers who are thrown together in a situation where they have to tolerate each other for two days every year for three years else they stand to lose largess worth crores. However what they don’t realize is how this forceful bonding will transform their lives forever.
Like most of the new age comedies, what works most for Teen Thay Bhai is the typical Punjabi lingo and accents of its characters. Om Puri abuses and Shreyas Talapade’s broken English where he calls affection, infection, keeps the audience in splits. Sometimes slapstick and sometimes a comedy of errors, the film is entertaining and amusing. The clothes, the dog and the broken door, the pahalwan and the inspector all add a dollop of humour to the film.
The only aspect that doesn’t however work for the film is its duration. The makers lose us in the second half. The audience will start feeling quite impatient and wonder why the part with hippies with a silly song was added to the film. Only if the filmmaker and scriptwriter ended a film half an hour earlier, the applause for it would have been more thunderous. But all said, the marvelous performances will keep this film afloat especially when movie goers are quite starved for entertainment apart from cricket.
