Lafangey Parindey is new. Although we have seen a lot of actors display their acting prowess by playing blind characters in films, Lafangey Parindey will still manage to carve a small niche of newness for itself. So there may not be anything earth shattering about this film, but it has something that will touch your hearts. Though Pradeep Sarkar has had a fairly volatile record at a box office with films like Parineeta, Eklavya and Laga Chunari Mein Daag, his deftness at the craft of filmmaking is quite apparent.

The film revolves around the life of daredevil boxer Nandu and Roller skates dancer Pinky. One night changes the lives of both these people completely. While Pinky loses her sight, Nandu ends up in a mess that will haunt him for a while. Pinky who wants top participate in a national level dancing competition but her blindness is a deterrent.  But Nandu will resolve to bring Pinky back on the roller skates and on the stage even if it means dancing on those wheels with her.

Let's talk about the positives of this film first. Firstly, Lafangey Parindey shows the earnestness with which the director has treated the film. It is not as if he found a new theme and hurriedly made a film on it. It is evident that a lot of thought went into making this film. The director also carefully studied the linguistic peculiarity of the Mahim Wadi where he put his central protagonists and captured it with precision.  Secondly, Pinky, the blind danseuse is not any morose character. She is feisty and regret free. and that is something that really touches you. The beginning of the film is good and barring a few minutes, the movie ticks for us. The chemistry between the two actors is also good. The performances are great.

Now the negatives. The build up to the film is a wee bit slow. We wish we were plunged into the thick of the action a little earlier. The music is not very enticing either. So the movie lives upto the novelty quotient of its title but is not a masterpiece because it does lose grip here and there in between.
