It may be a rip off but it isn’t bad, is timely and contextualized to suit India. Sanjay Dutt and Irrfan Khan starrer Knock Out has been directed by Mani Shankar and produced by Sohail Maklai. The film is said to be made at a budget of about 300 million rupees. What you can expect from this film is an engaging and though provoking experience. And for those of you, that haven’t watched Phone Booth, the movie will be novel and different.

Knock Out revolves around a drama that ensues in a phone between a man on the phoneline with another holding him hostage to the shot of a sniper. Bacchu Bhai leaves his house as on most days and stops by to make a call from a phone booth to note down a few addresses. Little does he know that this is going to be his longest call ever and will expose a morally decrepit and corrupt political system.

Sanjay Dutt plays much better in the hands of directors other than Sanjay Gupta. Knock Out will see the return of the awe inspiring Sanju Baba to the big screen in his typical bindaas avtar. The movie is novel for most that haven’t seen the original and frankly besides, the concept, all nuances and nitty gritties in the film are unique in their own way. Besides, the movie raises a very contemporary problem of all the hard earned Indian money stacked by away by corrupt politicians in Swizz banks. The movie is pacey with interesting scenes and some great performances. The fight sequences are interesting and you are treated to a few surprises every now and then.

Both Sanjay Dutt and Irrfan Khan dole out superb performances. Yes the film has its loopholes and failings but isn’t bad for a one time watch. Kangana Ranaut looks a little unbelievable as a journalist dressed in her tight fitting dress but is good in her role nevertheless. Sushant Singh too plays his character well.
