The four hungover friends who manage last minute entries at all weddings while one of them needs to be at the altar are back. While last time it was Vegas, this one sees them brining mayhem in Bangkok. The culprit who started it all again, but ofcourse, Allen.
Doug, Stu, Phil and Allen are in Bangkok to attend Stu’s wedding. His fiancé, a Thai, has a Hitler like father who compares Stu to the tasteless rice fed to infants and old people in Thailand. Despite the spiteful father-in-law who is trying every possible means to stop the marriage, Stu and his friends do it again and to make matters worse, this time they lose Stu's to-be-16-year-old brother-in-law.
Well, the second installment of Hangover is pretty much a replica of the first in its theme and plot. It is as if the makers made a template at the beginning and just went on an auto pilot mode with this one. This is not to say that we don’t have fun in Hangover 2 but we feel a sense of repetition and familiarity at all times. The real fun part of Hangover was revisiting all the madness that went into a stoned night. In Hangover 2, that madness plays a bit of a peekaboo. Besides, the makers haven’t cashed in on Allen’s peculiar behavior and dialogues.
Although comparisons are inevitable, even on its own, Hangover 2 isn't the perfect laugh ride. Besides ofcourse there was so much more to do and see in Vegas. However, all said and done, we manage a few laughs here and there and our love for the characters, their buffoonery and idiosyncrasies keeps us quite happily engaged in the film. My biggest complaint with this one, how I wish they had used Zach Galifianakis better.
