Going the Distance is a rom com by director Nanette Burstein, and stars Justin Long and Drew Barrymore. Now don’t expect anything brand new from the film, but yes it is one of those stereotypical romantic films that come out of Hollywood that are easy and entertaining watches.
Going the Distance is a film about a couple that tries to maintain a long distance relationship. What starts off between them as a few weeks long fling ends up in an exclusive relationship with each other. But the distance is certainly going to play havoc, as is the economic slump.
The off-screen chemistry between Barrymore and Long translates seamlessly on to the screen. The actors look perfect with each other.
The movie lives in moments of their togetherness and their being apart. There isn’t any point in the film where you feel its dragging or getting stretched.
It plays on very commonplace human emotions of love, jealousy and insecurity. The realness of the film is what makes it so watchable.
The scenes between Garett and his friends are interesting. We also like the part when Garett visits Erin at her sister's. The parts where Erin’s sister keeps saying 'statue' to her daughter Maya are also hilarious.
As for the negatives, it is evident that the maker did not have to do much thinking in making this film. It is too regular and there is nothing new that we get to see in the film. Besides, the end could have been more interesting.
