Fair Game is a 2010 thriller film directed by Doug Liman starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. The film is based on Valerie Plame's memoir, Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House. Naomi Watts stars as Plame along with Sean Penn as Plame's husband, Joseph C. Wilson.
Fair Game is a fairly engaging. You feel the heat almost at all times. The filmmaker captures the crisis of a country at war and its people, a married couple caught in the web of their secret service lives and a battle of ideology with great style and detail. Even though the movie is based on the events that took place in the life of ex-CIA agent valerie Plame, it manages to lend a hugely entertaining and educating fabric to itself. It delivers a strong rhetoric on the so called 'war on terror' and how it makes the perpetrated and the perpetrator suffer in equal measure. And while the movie condemns war, it exposes a whole body of lies and politics that revolve around a war and nation's avarice for power.
In my eyes, Sean Penn deserves doles out another award-winning performance in Fair Game. He is convincing, compelling and hard-hitting all at the same time. Naomi Watts plays the role of Valerie Plame with such grit that you can almost feel the mettle of the real women working as CIA agents.
