It is the day and age of 3D. And the special effects aren't only used in sci-fi thrillers, after all we've recently seen an Alice in Wonderland in 3D.
But in a situation such as this where the sequel has come out after 28 years, 3D may have been a good choice for the makers especially when the original was not just a blockbuster but also ground breaking and trend setting in many ways.
Garrett Hedlund plays the role of Sam, the grown son up of Kevin, still played by Jeff Bridges who esssayed the role in the original, who is upset as his father abandoned him as a child. When he gets sucked into the virtual world, he realises that his father has actually been captured and is in exile.
Now, Sam will have to combat each and every force that his father did, not only to release him but also the save the world from corrupt data.
Now the trouble with Tron is its clashing character, which on one hand boasts of some great CGI and visual razzmatazz and on the other permeates the movie with emotional melodrama. Just as we are beginning to enjoy one aspect of it, we are without forewarning thrown into the other.
So, the movie has a certain visual integrity but that alone cannot sustain the film. After all, we have seen better in the recent past. And to add to Tron Legacy's woes, it has a predecessor that carved out a niche for itself that this one is going to find it difficult to compete with.
