What to Expect: We may have always viewed Beauty and the Beast as the forbidden fantasy romance where a beauty falls in love with a dreaded beast but the latest remake of the 1991 film brings with it dark overtones, oodles of suspense and some superb 3D effects. We are informed in the beginning itself that the film is somewhere truer to the darkness that the tale was associated with than has been shown on the big screen over the years. So don’t expect this one to be your typical children’s film where fantasy meets CGI.

Plot: To tell you the plot if in short. Belle is a poor but beautiful rather ravishing and sexy girl who falls in love with a beast . At a time when an entire hamlet is under attack and villagers are being brutally murdered, the Beast is hunted down as the one responsible for it all. It is here that Belle and the Beast come together to find the real culprit, a troll who has been set loose by the evil witch.

Positives: Let's first talk about the beauty of Beauty and the Beast. There is definitely an endeavour to be more inclusive as far as the audience is concerned. By throwing in elements such as hunger for power, goriness and retaining magic potions, witches and forests, the movie can be watched both by children and adults. The 3D effects make it tad bit more appealing.

Negatives: The one thing we had hoped to get a heavier dose of was romance. Alas, we get to see very little of Belle and beast together. I am sure it would have been rather fascinating to see a beauty romance a beast. Also, fantasy for us still has a lot to do with costumes. We would have rather liked the gowns and the dresses than short skirts on our heroine to lend it that royale, fantasy like flavor. Too much bloodshed is also not exactly our idea of watching a somewhat fantasy romance. So the fact that makers confused genres and try to bite more than they can chew is very very evident.

Performances: Estella Warren not only looks really hot in the film but also plays her part to the T. She infact is one of the highpoints of the film.
