After Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Bachna Ae Haseeno, Sidharth Anand’s venture Anjaana Anjaani starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra is partly your typical candy-floss romance and partly a film about a man and woman’s journey to self realization during times of strife and duress.
What you can expect from this film? Well, some sizzling chemistry between Ranbir and Priyanka, good music and interesting locations.
The plot of the film revolves around the recent economic slump that hit the US and devastated the lives of many young stock brokers. One such guy is Aakash, a character played by Ranbir Kapoor.
When a mammoth loan of $12 million comes plummeting down on him as the American Stock exchange hits the nadir, suicide seems like the only way out. While trying to commit suicide, he meets Kiara or Priyanka Chopra who after trying to mend her broken heart is also set to jump off the same bridge.
But fate obviously has different plans.
After multiple failed attempts, both decide to set the D date for the New Year's Eve. But before that, they decide to do all the things they want to before they die. And this includes a swim in the middle of the Arctic Ocean, A trip to Vegas, a jig at a gay dance bar and lots of other madness.
However, by the time the death date draws near, their feelings towards death and each other have completely transformed.
Let’s begin with the positives of Anjaana Anjaani. The positives of the movie include Priyanka Chopra, Priyanka Chopra and Priyanka Chopra. Well, like it or not, the actress is certainly the high point of this film. She is endearing, cute, sexy and sensuous all at the same time. She looks completely comfortable in her character’s skin.
The chemistry between the two actors is also mind blowing. We love all the scenes in which the two are seen having fun with each other. The music is great.
Ranbir Kapoor, who looks a little stern in the beginning, too loosens up in the film after a while. The camerawork is good and they surely used some interesting locales to shoot the film.
As far as the negatives go, the build up to the film is rather slow.
The director almost loses the viewer in the first forty five minutes. Ranbir looks too frigid in the first half. It could be attributed to his character, but I guess then we like our man Ranbir in a happy mood doing happy roles.
The film is also too long. We are not used to staying glued to those seats for three hours anymore. But you’ve got to watch this film if for nothing else, then Priyanka and Ranbir’s chemistry.
