Only if it was possible to recreate the magic of a superhit film easily. But it is certainly not Bollywood's style to understand a fact as simple as that. So here we are at our plagiarising best ripping off a superhit time travel comedy that was released twenty five years ago. Robert Zemeckis' gorgeous film, Back To The Future, will find it difficult to even identify with this really distant cousin that is dancing as hard as it can to emulate it and entertain us. Vipul Shah's Action Replayy is a disappointment from the word go.
A young boy decides to travel back in time in order to save the marriage of his constantly bickering parents. As he lands in the 70's with a thud we meet his then young buck tooth geeky father who is pursuing his gorgeous nakhre wali mother. And then starts the journey of a boy trying to hook his parents up well with the agenda that well begun is half done. So he tries to turn his dumb ugly father into a cool dude and his tomboyish mother into a bit of a lady.
Vipul Shah tried his best to give us the 70s in thier most colourful avtaar with retro costumes and hairstyles. But then the riot of colors on the screen makes us sometimes wish we had sunglasses to watch this film. Besides there are few dialogues that make us laugh. The movie is long and the lack of substance makes it difficult to endure it after a while. Except Zor Ka Jhatka, the music is also quite a dampener. The storyline is very inconsistent and even though the director sought perfection in the look and feel of the film, he failed to give all the razzmatazz something robust to keep afloat and stay appealing and fascinating.
Akshay Kumar is a great actor and there cant be any denying that. Action Replayy belongs to him sans it lacking ofcourse. Ash too looks good and doles out a fairly good performance. Newcomer Aditya Roy Kapoor has a lot of potential and gives out a praiseworthy performance.
