BJP moves Privilege Motion against PM
Tue Mar 22 2011 03 : 03 / New Delhi
The BJP submits a Privilege Motion against the Prime Minister today on the cash for votes scandal. The move sparks an uproar in parliament after the government insists on passing the finance bill first.

The BJP moved a Privilege Motion against the Prime Minister today. The opposition says he was dishonest with his response in parliament on the cash-for-votes controversy.

Sushma Swaraj, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha put forth the breach of privilege notice to the Speaker Meira Kumar this morning.

The Speaker said she was “considering” the notice and would soon rule on the matter.

That's when the ruckus broke out with the opposition and the government arguing over when the matter should be discussed.

When matters got completely out of hand, BJP patriarch LK Advani stepped in. He called on the speaker to protect the rights of the leader of the opposition.

Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee today said that he has requested the BJP that the finance bill should be passed before Sushma Swaraj's privilege motion can be taken up.
